On September 21, 2018, Jasper Beernaerts was awarded the Best Student Paper Award for his paper "Analysing team formations in football with the Static Qualitative Trajectory Calculus" (J. Beernaerts, B. De Baets, M. Lenoir, K. De Mey and N. Van de Weghe) at the Sixth Internat. Congress on Sport Sciences Research and Technology Support held in Seville, Spain.​
