At the Award Ceremony of the Vlaamse Scriptieprijs in the Irish College of KULeuven on December 19, the EOS-prize for best thesis in the exact sciences was awarded to Sarah Vanbesien for her thesis "Machine learning and pollination networks: the right flower for every bee" (supervisors: B. De Baets and G. Smagghe; tutors: M. Stock and N. Piot). In her thesis, Sarah developed a biological 'datingapp' that matches the right bee with the right flower. In this way, she eases the burden of the labour-intensive fieldwork of biologists and makes us better prepared for climate change.
