On July 20, 2009, Jan Baetens was awarded the Best Student Paper Award for presenting his paper "Incorporating Fuzziness in Spatial Susceptible-Infected Epidemic Models" (J.M Baetens and B. De Baets) at the Joint 2009 International Fuzzy Systems Association World Congress and European Society of Fuzzy Logic and Technology Conference, Lisbon, Portugal.
