On Oct 5, 2018, Christina Papagiannopoulou and Steffie Van Nieuland defended their Ph.D. theses and were both awarded the title of Doctor of Applied Biological Sciences. Christina was supervised by Willem Waegeman and Diego Miralles and her thesis was entitled "A data-guided insight into global climate-vegetation dynamics", while Steffie was supervised by Bernard De Baets and Jan Baetens and her thesis was entitled "Analysis and modeling of biological movement phenomena based on telemetric observations".
