On April 23, 2019, Bac Nguyen Cong defended his Ph.D. thesis "Supervised distance metric learning for pattern recognition" and was awarded the title of Doctor of Applied Biological Sciences. Bac was supervised by Bernard De Baets and Carlos Morell Pérez. His jury included the international expert Francesc Ferri.
