On January 11, 2022, Dailé Avila Alonso successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis "Marine phytoplankton response to environmental stressors associated with climate change" and was awarded the title of Doctor of Bioscience Engineering. Dailé was supervised by Bernard De Baets, Jan Baetens and Rolando Cardenas. Her research was supported by a North-South sandwich PhD scholarship from the Special Research Fund of Ghent University while being affiliated with the Universidad Central "Marte Abreu" de la Villas in Santa Clara, Cuba.
