The 2022 National Award of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba in Natural and Exact Sciences has been jointly awarded to Dailé Avila Alonso, Jan M. Baetens, R. Cardenas Ortiz and Bernard De Baets for their work on Phytoplankton dynamics in the North Atlantic associated with the passage of hurricanes. Dailé and Rolando are affiliated with the Universidad Central "Marta Abreu"' de Las Villas, Santa Clara, Cuba.

The award ceremony took place on July 24 in La Havana Vieja, Cuba. This is another milestone in the longstanding Flanders-Cuba cooperation after winning the same award in 2018.
